Betting Settings

Set the quick-amount buttons, the starting amount, the price format and cash out your players bet with

Betting settings decide how a bet is placed and how prices read in your embed: the quick-amount buttons on the bet slip, the amount the slip opens with, how prices are written, and whether players may cash out an open bet. You set them in the back office, separately for sandbox and production, like your look. Players get them before the embed first draws, so they never see a default first.

Open Them

Open Manage > Your operator and choose the Betting tab, beside Appearance. Phoenix staff open the same tab from Manage > Operators, on the operator's page.

Your Admins can change the settings. Other staff who can open Manage see them read-only.

Quick Amounts

Each button adds its amount to the stake, as today's buttons do. Set them for each currency your players bet in, for example 20, 50, 100 and 500 for KES. A currency you set no buttons for shows Phoenix's.

  • Every amount must be a stake a player can place: at least your minimum order and at most your maximum order for that currency, with no more decimals than the currency has.
  • The buttons are shown smallest first. The same amount cannot be two buttons.
  • Phoenix's buttons are 5, 25 and 100 units of a currency step: 10 for KES and 1,000 for CDF, 1 for every other currency. A Phoenix button outside your limits for the currency is not shown.

Buttons apply to a bet in money. A bet in shares, and a sell, keep the share buttons.

Starting Amount

The amount a bet in money opens with, for example 50 for KES. It must also lie within your minimum and maximum order for the currency, and does not have to be one of your buttons. With none set, the amount field opens empty, as it does today.

Price Format

Every price in the embed is a chance between 0 and 1. Choose how it is written by default, and which formats players may switch to:

FormatA price of 0.40 readsSuits
Chance40%Readers of chances
Cents40cPrediction-market players
Decimal odds2.50Sportsbook and casino players
Payout2.50xWhat one staked pays back if it wins
Fractional odds3/2Fractional odds
American odds+150American odds

The default is always one of the formats players may use. Until you save Betting settings, only the default, Cents, is allowed: players see prices in cents and no price menu. Allow more than one format and the bet slip shows a price menu where players switch between them, each written with the current price; their pick is kept on their device. Allow one format to lock it for players: there is no menu, and a player cannot show another format.

Your own page can still choose any of the six formats for itself, whether or not you allow it: with the odds parameter, or with the Host SDK's oddsFormat at mount or in setTheme. Only the player's own pick is limited to the formats you allow. See Odds and Charts.

Cash Out

Players sell an open bet for what it is worth now, from Portfolio and the event page.

Your Limits Come First

Your minimum and maximum order for each currency are set under Manage > Your operator > Overview, for the environment the header shows (Currency limits in Sandbox): sandbox and production keep their own limits. An environment's limits are checked against that environment's Betting settings both ways:

  • A button or a starting amount outside your limits cannot be saved. The field says which limit it breaks, for example "is below the minimum order (20 KES)".
  • A change to your limits that would leave a saved amount outside them is refused, naming each amount and environment, for example "Betting settings in sandbox has a quick amount of 10 KES below the new minimum order (20 KES); change Betting settings first". Change the amounts first, then the limits.

Amounts for a currency you no longer take are kept. They are checked again when the currency comes back.

Sandbox, Production and Restore

Betting settings are saved, compared, copied and restored exactly like your look (see Saving, Copying and Restoring):

  • Each environment has its own settings and keeps every version. A save is refused if someone saved a newer version while you were editing.
  • A line says whether production matches sandbox, and which settings differ.
  • Copy sandbox to production shows every difference before it copies. It copies the sandbox version you reviewed, and only the Betting settings: your look, Player protection, wallet, keys, sites, currencies and limits stay as they are.
  • Restore brings back the settings an environment had before its last change. A copy or restore of a version that no longer fits your limits is refused until you change it.

Players get a change on their next load.

What a Page Cannot Change

The quick-amount buttons and the starting amount come only from your Betting settings: no URL parameter or Host SDK call changes them. The one thing a page can choose is a price format for itself, with odds or the Host SDK's oddsFormat.
