Reviewing Translations
Approve drafts, keep or update out of date texts, and write your own, one language at a time with the keyboard
The review screen is where you read a language of an event text by text and approve what is right. It replaces the old translation sheet at the bottom of the form: it is a full page, and each text saves as you leave it, so there is no Save button for the page and no prompt about discarding changes.
Open it from:
- Review (n) on the language bar, which opens the language you are looking at, or else the first language with texts waiting for approval,
- Review on a language in the event page's Languages card,
- the pencil beside a title or description when the event page is in a language (on a Phoenix event it is a flag, and the screen is read only),
- Review on a row of the Translations tab, or Review next there.
The screen is titled "Review Swahili", for example, with the path Events > the event > Swahili, and a chip that says Yours. Content and Admin staff can make changes. Other roles can read.
The Screen
- The language bar is at the top, as on the event page. Pressing another language switches the review to it. Translate missing (n) here covers this one language, with its estimate. Pressing the written language takes you back to the event page.
- The filters have counts: Needs me, Waiting for approval, Out of date, Missing, Approved and All. The default is Needs me: everything except Approved.
- The list on the left has Event, then each market with its question, such as "1 · Will Gor Mahia win?". Each shows how many of its texts are approved, such as "1 of 2". Press one to jump to it. On a phone it is a menu above the rows.
- The rows are in the middle. Each row names the text ("Market 2, Will both teams score?, Rules"), shows its status chip, the original text, and your translation under it. A text whose original is locked shows the lock: "English locked since the first trade" or "English fixed since publish".
- The card on the right, "As players see it", shows the market of the row you are on, in that language. A text that players would read in another language is marked with that language. It appears on wide screens, and it is a card, not the embed itself, so it shows no prices.
The row you are on has a coloured edge. The line at the top right says "Each row saves when you leave it or approve it."
What Each Row Offers
| Status | What the row shows | Buttons |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for approval | The AI draft | Approve (Enter), Edit (E) |
| Out of date | "The English changed", with the old and new original (was and now) and the changed words marked, and the old translation | Keep: still right (Enter), Update automatically (U), Edit (E) |
| Missing | "Players read the English. Press E to write, U to translate." | Translate (U), Same as English (S), Edit (E) |
| Approved | The translation, and who approved or wrote it on the right | Edit (E) |
The Keyboard
You can review a whole language without the mouse. The keys work when you are not typing in a field and no dialog is open.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| J and K | Move down and up between rows (the arrow keys work too) |
| Enter | On a draft: approve it and move to the next row. On an out of date row: keep the translation, as Keep: still right does. On a missing row: open the field to write. On an approved row: move on |
| E | Edit the translation in place |
| U | Update automatically on one row: draft it again. On a missing row it translates it. It does nothing on a draft or an approved text |
| S | Same as English: use the original as the translation, for names and other text that does not change. It works on missing and out of date rows |
| Shift+Enter | Approve every text waiting for approval among the rows shown, after you confirm the count |
| Esc | Leave the field you are typing in, or close the approve-all confirm |
Editing a Translation
Press E, Edit, or Enter on a missing row. The translation becomes a field, with the line "Saves when you leave the field. Ctrl+Enter saves and moves on." A translation holds up to 255 characters for a title, a subtitle, a question or an outcome name, and up to 10,000 for a description or the rules. The field shows the count.
- Esc, moving to another row or clicking away saves what you typed and leaves the field.
- Ctrl+Enter, or the Save button, saves and moves on to the next row. In a short field (a title, a question or an outcome name), plain Enter does the same. In a long field (a description or the rules) it starts a new line.
- Cancel puts the row back as it was last saved.
- Saving an empty field clears the translation: the row goes back to Missing, and players read the original.
A text you write yourself is Approved, written by you.
Each Row Saves When You Leave It
Approving, keeping, updating, writing and Same as English each save at once. A message says what was saved, for example "Approved: Market 2, rules", "Kept: Market 2, rules still says the same" or "Saved: Market 2, rules, same as English". Most of these messages have Undo, which puts the row back as it was. A few cannot be taken back, such as Keep and replacing a draft with your own text, and their message has no Undo.
When Update automatically drafts a text, it lands as Waiting for approval and a message says so: "Translated by Claude Sonnet 5.5: Market 2, rules. Waiting for approval."
If someone changes the original while you are working on a translation, your save does not overwrite their change. The row turns Out of date in place, with both versions of the original, and a message says so: "The English of Market 2's rules changed while you were translating; it now shows out of date. Your other changes are still here."
Approve All Waiting
When the rows shown include texts waiting for approval, Approve all waiting (33) appears beside the filters on Needs me and Waiting for approval, with the Shift+Enter hint. It opens a confirm, "Approve 33", that says: "You are saying each of these 33 Swahili texts says what the English says. Your name goes on each, and the timeline records it once." Approve 33 confirms and Esc cancels. The message that follows, "33 Swahili texts approved", has Undo.
Use it only after you have read the drafts, or when you trust a language enough to sign for all of it. Your name goes on every text you approve.
Texts With a Locked Original
The title and image of an event lock at the first order. A market's question, rules and outcome names are fixed at publishing. The translations stay editable.
On a rules text after publishing, the row you are on adds a note: "For reading: the English rules decide. Players see 'Show the original'. Changes are recorded." Your edit still takes effect, and the Timeline records it with your name.
Review Next
When you open the review from Review next on the Translations tab, the line at the top says "The next event opens when this one is done (3 more)." When no row is left on the filter you started with, the next event opens by itself.
On a Phone
The screen shows one row at a time, with a bar at the bottom: Previous, the button for what the row needs (Approve, Keep: still right, Translate, Save, or Next), Edit, Next, and the position, such as "3/20".
Phoenix's Events
When you open a Phoenix event's translations, the same screen is titled "Swahili of a Phoenix event" and is read only: there is no Approve and no Edit. It says "Phoenix writes this event and manages its translations. You read them as your players get them." The filters are All, Waiting for approval, Out of date, Missing, Approved and Your reports. An out of date or missing text says "your players read the English until Phoenix updates it". Each row has Report a problem (R). See Reporting a Translation Problem.
